Unity Session 2 (6/11/2012)

Having reviewed the last session I felt it only made sense for me to come back to another session and see if they had taken my constructive criticism to heart. Unfortunately this was not the case.

When I arrived the same tutor who taught us asked us to download the game 'Moth Head' as it was an example of how good Unity appeared when it was used for an art based game. This was certainly the case as I have never played a game in which I was a moth which could fly freely around beautifully rendered environments before taking control of weird humanoid stick figures in order to complete strength based puzzles. Most unique. I was excited and willing to give this session a chance.

Sadly, I was unable to do as through no fault of the lectures, the computers in the college are only updated on a termly basis, whereas the program is updated on a weekly basis. Therefore our lecturer always has the latest version whilst our computer don't. This necessitates the whole group having to upgrade their programs during the session and therefore losing a hour and twenty minutes of valuable learning due to an assortment of other distractions.

The lecturer remained his usual happy and supportive self as well as being a lot louder this time round. However, when we had finally got past all the distractions he admitted that he couldn't show us anything due to the lack of time. Therefore, the rest of the session was spent looking back at the same 'dodge the cannonball' game that he showed us last time and just editing it.

Overall:

I was willing to give these sessions a go as they add to my extra curricular activities and experience as well as showing enthusiasm for the course. However, if the sessions are going to be a waste of my time then I don't see any reason to attend another one, especially since I don't want to go into programing which the sessions seem to be most focused on.
Therefore I wish the lecturer all the best as I know he is a kind and intelligent lecturer who just doesn't have the support of the equipment he needs. Perhaps if programs could be updated on a monthly basis then this would help a great deal?
