I used the following method:
- Bringing up the 'Content Browser' go into the 'External' folder and select the file named after the save file I am working on in UDK. In this case 'CityOfLiesDemo'.
- With this up select the 'Import' button and then the PSD file with the texture layout you need.
- Save it as something without spaces in the name space and remember to put it in the same 'External' folder as before.
- With the file now imported, right click the background of the 'Content Browser' and select new material.
- Save it again as before under a name you will remember, preferably one that reminds you it is a Material.
- Once saved a new box will pop up. Drag the texture you saved in to it. Once it is in, drag the left side black box on the texture to the black box next to 'Diffuse'. Once this is done press the green tick.
- Now that the above is done you can drag the materiel onto the appropriate object and you will be rewarded with a textured 3D asset.
Today I also realised a number of things that I had to edit.
- The beer glasses were only one sided and didn't show the faces inside. Therefore I had to use the 'Shell' tool in order to make the polygons double sided.
- Sadly, because many of my 3D assets are two separate models which I textured separately I couldn't texture a whole 3D model in UDK. Therefore I had to re-texture some of my 3D assets before I could include them.
I also decided to add dramatic lighting to my scene which even though it took FOREVER to render and save was worth the time as you can see below.
